How to choose the perfect gift for your mom?
Mother's Day is a special day when we want to show our mom* how much she means to us. But we also have to think about the environmental impact of our gifts🌿🎁
Of course, giving the gift of an experience like a concert or a cooking class can be a great way to reduce our impact. But sometimes, we want to please with a material gift, and that's completely understandable. After all, who doesn't love seeing a smile on their loved ones' faces when they open a gift? 🥰
Here are five tips for choosing a gift that will please your mom* while having a positive impact on the environment.

1. Opt for reusable or recycled gift packaging.
There are some great reusable gift wrapping alternatives . It's either part of the gift (your mom* will be able to reuse it too) or you can recycle it.
You can also make do with what you have: use a dish towel (which can be a gift) to make a furoshiki , or opt for no packaging!

2. Look carefully at the ingredient lists
This is especially true for food or beauty products, or make sure the values of the company selling the products align with yours. On Simplitude.ca , all products are subject to strict selection criteria, which are also listed in their Our Impact section. If you don't want to spend time analyzing all the ingredients, choose companies that sell eco-responsible products and share your values.
3. Prioritizes the durability and/or usefulness of gifts.
For example, food or clothing that your mom* would love to have. Giving food products is a safe bet, knowing that they will eventually be eaten. So, take the opportunity to introduce her to new products or your favorites!
4. Look at the product packaging.
A gift basket is always beautiful, but it's even more so without all the plastic and ribbon surrounding it that will end up straight in the trash!
If you are giving a gift basket, try to make it reusable afterwards by perhaps using a plate or a tray or a cutting board :)

5. Choose plants instead of bouquets of flowers.
Plants can beautify your mom's home* for a very long time and they also have a lower environmental impact than bouquets of flowers, which have often been intensively grown and transported long distances before arriving in your city. We don't say no to a gift that lasts!
There you have it! We hope we've helped you find the perfect gift. If you're still looking, we've put together a selection of products that might appeal to all moms 💕
Important note for us to share:
In this article, the term "mom" is defined as anyone who has developed a maternal instinct towards a person, regardless of their gender or identity 😘
