For quick and easy spring cleaning!
Spring isn't just the season when flowers bloom, it's also the season when most of the world tackles a big clean! ☀🌷
Is this the case for you too?
There are several ways to do it, true to ourselves, we do not provide you with a perfect recipe (#sorry) but more ideas and/or tips that we practice ourselves at home 🥰
1. Sort it out
Start by sorting through your entire house and getting rid of things you no longer use. Try to sell as much as possible or offer them on classifieds sites like Marketplace, Vinted, or Kijiji instead of taking them to Village des valeurs or Renaissance to avoid creating fashion dumps (very interesting article to read!).
👉For the items you're not ready to get rid of right away, sort them by category, put them in large bins and you'll see next year if you missed them 😉
👉For everything you throw away or recycle, don't forget to consult the Recyc-Québec website to find out what to do with each material 👌
2. Clean the walls, ceilings, and floors of each room. Remove cobwebs and dust.
If you have white walls, the magic eraser is really amazing for removing stubborn marks!
For so-called "normal" cleaning, the classic soapy water made with dish soap or a dish soap cake is always a safe bet. For scrubbing, the small bamboo brush that we use for everything is perfect! It's durable, effective, doesn't scratch, and is compostable. It's hard not to love it 😅
👉For all types of floors, black soap is without a doubt the product you need! Degreasing, natural, biodegradable, and now with an option made 100% in Quebec (traditional black soap is made with olive oil, so not here 😅), AND what you will love most is that it is really economical!
📌 Recipe for floors: 2 tbsp + 5L of hot water + essential oil
If you have a wooden floor, you'll love it even more! It makes it shine and also treats and nourishes wooden floors. 🌟

👉For dust, a reusable paper towel with a little water does the job well. However, take the initiative for next time and make yourself an anti-dust spray so that it settles less quickly.
📌 Anti-dust spray recipe:
25 cl of water + 15 cl of white vinegar + 3 tbsp of olive oil + 20 drops of essential oil (lemon, lavender, orange, peppermint, etc.). Mix in a spray bottle before each use.

3. Attack the kitchen
Do a major cleaning in the kitchen, cleaning the cupboards and drawers with eucalyptus black soap to make it smell good, the refrigerator with vinegar and add air fresheners and dehumidifiers .
👉For the oven, the hood and the stoves, we recommend clay stone or a really easy recipe for scouring cream:
📌Scouring cream recipe : ¼ cup black soap + ¼ cup baking soda + 30ml 12% vinegar
👉To disinfect countertops, a mixture of vinegar and water is more than enough. In fact, this mixture is your new all-purpose product😂

4. Then the bathroom
At Simplitude, we're pretty minimalist, so the fewer products we have, the better! 😂
👉For the bathroom, we still use our vinegar and water mixture. For the toilet, we alternate between magic powder or the toilet bowl kit . In all honesty, we are unable to say which product is more effective, they are very similar.
👉For mirrors, always use the same mixture, but you have to be careful with the proportions to avoid leaving marks. To wipe everything, we recommend reusable paper towels . They work wonderfully for windows!
📌 Proportions for windows and mirrors : ¼ vinegar + ¾ water
👉If you use cold-process soap bars, they often leave a deposit in the pipes. To unclog your pipes, add citric acid and pour hot water. It unclogs and deodorizes, 2 for 1, we love it!
👉 For the bath, you will surely find it special, but we use the dish cake or the mixture of water and vinegar with a magic eraser or the clay stone . All three options work very well and use the products you already have 😉

5. And finally: the other rooms
Dust your plants, clean the windows with a vertical brush to get into every groove, wash your curtains or sofa covers with biodegradable detergent and take the opportunity to do a general check of your house to see if any repairs and/or improvements are needed.
