Unfiltered female entrepreneurship - The Fattoush girls

In honor of International Women's Day, we're giving a voice to women who inspire us with their vision of female entrepreneurship. Through short questions and answers, we discover them from a perspective we don't usually see, read, or hear.

We give the floor to Adelle, the co-founder of Filles Fattoush .

Which woman inspires you the most in your entrepreneurial life?

My grandmother inspires me a lot. A strong, resilient woman who loved life and had a zest for life. She raised a large family of 8 children and about 20 grandchildren. She immigrated to Canada in her fifties, what courage! She was organized, punctual, she always had a list of tasks to do in her day, and visits, just like a businesswoman! It's as if she was an entrepreneur by nature. She loved bringing her family together around a full table. She inspires me with her personality, her love of cooking, her know-how and her joy. She was able to pass on to us all her beautiful qualities and her resilience.

In your opinion, what is the main difference between an entrepreneur and a female entrepreneur?

Finding a work-life balance is a big challenge for an entrepreneur. Sometimes it's really difficult to juggle everything: being present at home, attending the children's activities, taking the time to cook, having time for yourself, all while excelling at being a businesswoman. It's a real challenge!

As a female entrepreneur, you have to prove yourself even more in society. Women tend to push harder to gain a foothold in the business world. Fortunately, our society is evolving, and it's becoming more common to see women in leadership positions.

The Fattoush Girls in a few words.

Faced with the daunting social, cultural, and economic obstacles that all refugees face upon arriving in Canada, Les Filles Fattoush provides Syrian newcomers with a meaningful integration opportunity: real work that puts their culinary talents to good use, allowing them to generate income while building a social network. This employment not only represents a first step toward regaining dignity, but also allows the women to communicate with each other and with their customers; thus, the result is a real mutual benefit.
